The provided materials are concerned with extinction of Torreya and the possible ways to preclude it. According to the reading passage there are three amandment in order to limite extinction of these type of trees. In contrast the lecturer repudiates these solutions through several counterarguments that are as follows.
Initially, the author says that due to faviorable microclimate of North Florida by relocating Torreya to such a wet and cool place in order to boost the growth of this type of plant. However, the professor explains that microclimates are considerably affected by larger climates. Therefor, it is probable that this wet microclimate drain ensuing the global warming, and leads to a failure in the growth of Torreya.
Second, the writer thinks that by transfering Torreya to a place far from Florida microclimate which has a cold weather, they can inhibit its extinction. Yet again, the speaker underscores that this planning may cause another problem. She provides an example of Black Locase tree which were moved to another area. Although they have spread so quickly, they killed other plants which were also in danger of extinction.
Finally the passage declares that another approach is to keep TOrreya in a research center aiming to protect them run researche on them. On the other hand the narrator clarifies that in order to study a species of plant it is required to have a host of them in the area and what is more the diversity of other plants, and the effect those plants may have on Torreya could be studied. Besides, for a tree to survive diseases, it is important to be plentiful in numbers which is not possible in a limited research area.
