TED

Essay topics:

TED

The listening lecture totally opposes to the reading lecture in the topic of turtle excluder device(TED). First of all, the reading says that shrimpers complain that the cost is too high in comparison with the small chance of saving a turtle. However, the listening asserts that it is true that catching a endanger turtle for one boat is rare. However, there are huge numbers of boats on the ocean, if all of them have TED, they can save a large numbers of endanger sea turtles. As a result, these shrimpers should think more about endanger turtles instead of the lost of those shrimps.

Secondly, while the reading implies that it is more effective to shortening the time limit that shrimp boats are allowed to keep their nets underwater, the listening suggests that this method will not be more effective than TED. It is impossible for the government to monitor the time each shrimp boat keep under the water. Besides, when they use TED, the only thing government need to do is to check the nets before each boat can start catching shrimps. In other words, it is far more effective to use TED than to limit the time shrimp boats are allowed to keep their nets underwater.

Last but not least, the reading asserts that TED is not effective for lager species of endanger sea turtle. On the other hand, the listening indicates that this in not going to be a problem. The government can create some larger size of TED for specific places. Therefore, it will not be hard for people to save some lager species of sea turtle. To say it differently, since the government can make some larger TED, there will be no problem for people to save lager sea turtles.
