The article state that agricultural subsidies are a form of economic aid that farmers get. However, the professor explains that the agricultural subsidies make no sense and have no benefits and provides three reasons that support his opinion.
First, the reading states that agricultural subsidies ensure that harvests are plentiful, and thus the food prices remain low. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that it is true that these subsidies keep food prices down. Still, the united states government gets billions of dollars in benefits from these subsidies that come from taxes, and also, these taxes come from consumers, should the consumers be the ones how to get benefits. Hence, there are no benefits.
Second, the passage avers that the system of subsidies usually results in a large surplus that the governments can sell at low prices to developing countries and help to reduce food hunger. However, the lecture contends this point by stating that it is true that we can sell food at low prices to poor countries with agriculture subsidies. But, in the long run, of these subsidies and meager prices in the poor countries, sellers have to sell imported foods at very low prices than the food from their farmers that which makes the poor country economically dependent on the agriculture and food of the rich countries as well as they undermine the poor countries.
Third, the reading says that agricultural subsidies ensure job security. However, the professor opposes this point by lecturing that giving subsidies to farmers for job security is not necessarily our case, and subsidies do not belong to all kinds of crops. For instance, one of the crops that have to subside is corn. After a time, for high subsides, corn farmers make their fields mechanical; thus, they do not need human labor then, and we do not have job security compared to other crops farmers that do not get subsidies which they have more human labor. So, the jobs are declining with getting subsidies.
