The passage discusses a recent study and its findings. The investigation indicates that people spend a little time to read books like novels, poems and plays in comparison with past.
Also, the text claims that reading less books has harmful effects for society and provides three reasons for supporting the idea. However, the professor rejects the reading's hypethosis by stating people can do various thing instead of just reading novels and they can use of the advantages of these works. Consequently, the teacher provides three reasons.
First, the passage asserts that literature has a vital role in providing intellectual stimulation. While the lecture refutes the idea by explaining that other kind of books like scientific and hystorical books are as challenging as novels. So, the teacher says people can learn grat things from these kind of books.
Second, the text asserts that people spend their time on reading useless books or watching movies. However, the talk disagrees with text's idea and desribes that today's culture is not just litreture. Nowadays, culture is different with past and there are a lotof choises for people. Thereare good movies, great musics and other kind of activities that people can replace them with reading novels. So, spending time to these activities is not only helpful but also challenging.
Third, the reading suggests that the trend of reading less literature is regrettable. Furthermore, based on the passage, today, there are a lot of talented writers with grate taste but they lack on supports. However, the teacher rebuts this idea by explaining that maybe this problem is related to writers not readers. The professor adds that writer's books are very complex in comparison with past and it makes audience reluctant to read.
