Both texts deal with the question that wether or not the memoir wrote by the Chevalier de seingalt as depended on the fact of his accutual life. The text clearly states that many fact prove that the long memoir isn't based on his real life but just enlarged his memoir in order to make it appeare a fabirous life.
The first contradicting fact is that he gretaly used amount of money on parties and gambling while living in Switzerland, whereas the sum of money is of Swiss government fainance as he borrowed. In the lecture, it is said that he has to sell a large amount of money for party or gambling, subsequently he got a sum of money same as his counterpart. Borroing money from the government doesn't mean that he is actually poor.
Another problem with the accuracy of the memoir is that the conversation with Voltaire. The chevalier eaxactly wrote about evey single conversation he did with Voltaire many years ago, but this problem can be also explained by now. According to research, he used to take note on the jurnols for keepig the memories of each conversation he had with Voltaire, so that it's natural that he's capable of shch a work.
Third aspect which let critics wonder anbout the his experience in jail is, in fact, that there are virtually holes made by his not as a piece of his brave tale. By the research shown that Venetian prison's wall was repaires after his escape from the jail, moreovere, the way to get out of the prison by bribing by someof one's friends is unrealistic at the time.
