The reading and lecture both are about the advantages and disadvantages of the employee working for four-day week. The author of the reading states that if the employees work for four-day a week would benefit the company as well as the employee, the lecturer cast doubts on the main points made in the reading by providing three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading the suggest that if more employees work four-day week then it would require hiring more new employees and it wouldn't require extra cost as the four-day working employee would be given only 80 percent of the salary, so it would be cost effective and decrease unemployment. However the lecturer disputes this point. He says that hiring new employee wouldn't cost effective instead it will cost extra for giving training's to employee and providing them with new computer.Furthermore he mentions that the medical expense would be same for both four-day and five-day working employees and also addition of new employee would require extra office space.
Secondly, the reading states that the quality of the life would increase for the employees working four-day week. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. He says that there wouldn't be any job stability for the four-day working employee as the company would expect from them to do the same amount of work as they did in five working days. Hence they will not find stability and this can also lead to no career advancement as they will be working only four-day a week.
Finally, the reading states that four-day working employee would become a better individual. On the other hand, the lecturer believe that the four-day working employee would have higher chance of loosing their job in the time of inflation as they are working for less number of hours. He thinks that there are high chances that they would also loose their promotion.
In conclusion, although the reading and the lecture are both about the four or five -day working a week, the three main points made in the reading are effectively challenged by the lecturer.
- TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri 70
