TPO-04 - Integrated Writing Task Endotherms are animals such as modern birds and mammals that keep their body temperatures constant. For instance, humans are endotherms and maintain an internal temperature of 37°C, no matter whether the environment is wa

The article states that dinosaurs or more specifically polar dinosaurs used to be endotherm animals. They used to keep their body temperature constant. Reading provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that many scientists have problems with these claims. They do not think that they have proven these claims. The professor challenges each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading states that dinosaur fossils have been discovered in Polar Region. But the professor refutes this point by stating that research has revealed that the Polar Region used to be much warmer than today. Thus it was not necessary to be an endotherm so to be able to live there.

Second, the article claims that there is a connection between endothermy and the position and movement of the legs. However, the professor contends that the reason for the position of dinosaurs' legs which was under their body is a lot more likely for supporting more weight and so they could grow to large sizes which was beneficial.

Finally, the reading avers that there is a connection between endothermy and bone structure because the bones of endotherms usually include structures called Haversian canals. The professor acknowledges that dinosaurs bone structure has Haversian canals but he opposes the relationship by saying that the bone structure it also has growth rings. Growth rings are good evidence of dinosaurs not growing or slow growing times during cold periods. Indeed, endotherms must grow well even within cold seasons.
