The text and the lecturer offer two opposite views on the accuracy of the surmises which nominated as the consequences of less interest in the literature in todays' life among the young adults. While the text lists some points such as the insufficient imagination, lower level of culture in society, and less support of the new generation writers as the results of reading less far the literature and poem, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into question for the information in the reading passage and come to her conclusion.
First of all, the professor refutes the facts that the less reading habits among the young generation will lead to less imagination and difficulties of understanding the language, which in the reading part is named as one of the disadvantages of this novel habit. The lecturer states that even it has been surmised that the other types of books such as the history, science, or etc. are in the willing list of the todays’ young people, it does not mean that these kinds of book do not present the extension of imagination, and these kinds of books can be considered as imagination trigger books too. That is how she cast doubt about the accuracy of the first fact.
Next, although the passage uses the hypothesis that less reading custom as a cause of low level of culture in the society, the professor doubts the truth of this hypothesis. As she asserts, cultural values are not compacted solely in the literature and poem, and if the juveniles use other activities such as the listening music and watching movie, they flourished their cultural values by them too; moreover, she assumes that even in some cases the influence of a scene of movie and a piece of music can be more than the effect of novel.
Finally, the lecturer argues that this is not logical and fair to blame the young people as the reasons of the less support of new authors, because they are not interested in the literature. Meanwhile, the passage presumes this fact as one of reasons which leads to less investment of publishers on the literature. Based upon the professor's belief this incident can be occurred, since the modern literature are more complicated and vague, and it is arduous task for the readers to make connection with this type of writing. Consequently, the modern writers can be accountable for the event.
