The reading and the lecture are both about "salvage logging". The professor in the lecture totally disagrees with the three reasons mentioned in the reading passage. In fact, the professor believes that these reasons won't lead to satisfaction consequences at all.
First of all, the author suggests that after a devastating fire, forests are choked with dead trees. If the trees are not removed, no new trees can grow in the cramped spaces. This argument is challenged by the lecture. The professor says that removing dead trees is not good for the health of forest because it deprives it of the nutrients necessary for future tree growth.
Secondly, the writer contends that dead trees do more than just take up space. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by asserting that some insects and birds that inhabit dead trees are beneficial for tree growth.
Finally, it is stated in the article that salvage logging has economic benefits. Many industries depend upon the forests for their production, and because of this, a fire can have a very harmful effect on the economy. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that the argues against salvage logging because the dead trees can only be salvaged at a very high cost.
