The professor contradicts the statement by saying that cleaning the forest does not provide a good condition for the growth of trees. She states that these trees enrich the soils and it makes soils suitable for plants. So, eliminating them can lead to soil with lack of nutrients.
Moreover, the passage points out that decaying wood is a good place for insects which can damage the forest. The lecturer rejected this idea by explaining that dead trees is a appropriate habitat not only for harmful insects such as spruce bark beetle but also for useful insects.
Thirdly, the reading explains that salvage logging is economically beneficial and also creates job opportunities. The professors opposes this idea by saying that economic benefits does not last very long. Since removing these trees should be done by helicopters which is expensive. Also, She states those employment opportunities which will be created, are temporarily.
