TPO-18 - Integrated Writing Task In the 1950s Torreya taxifoha, a type of evergreen tree once very common in the state of Florida, started to die out. No one is sure exactly what caused the decline, but chances are good that if nothing is done, Torreya wi

The reading and the lecture are both about the Torreya taxifoha trees. The article states that Torreya tree which is in the state of Florida is getting declined and the author considers three reasons to address the decline of Torreya. However, the lecturer explains that the information provided in reading is not satisfied, and refutes each of the author's points.

First, the article conveys that to plant the Torreya tree in the same location where it was grown for thousands of years and also contains a specific micro climate. On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this point by saying that reestablishment is an unlikely solution and says that the tree may be affected by the change of climate. Moreover, there is a chance of an increase in global warming. Furthermore, Florida has the wetland which may change to dry lands.

Second, the text explains that to move Torreya tree to a different place where the temperature is cooler. Nevertheless, the professor opposes this point by saying that in the past black lotus tree was moved to other location. This lotus plant was grown so fast and killed the other plants which are placed near this plant. Furthermore, the lecturer says that the other plants may be at serious risk.

Third, the article posits that to save the seed of Torreya in the research centers. However, the professor says that the large population of Torreya plants cannot resist the diseases. He mentions that research center cannot provide enough capacity for these plants to grow.
