The lecture and the passage are both about genetically modified trees. The author of the article feels that use of genetics and genetic modification tools will have advantages, however the lecturer challanges the claims asserted in the passage. The lecturer is on the opinion that genetically modified trees have more disadvantages.

To begin with, the author argues that these new generation of genetically modified trees are harder than the natural trees. In the article he emphasize the persistance of geneically trees in exposure to nature; for instance a new papaya tree specie could resist against a virus, named ring spot virus. On the other hand the lecturer oppoese this claim reseoning that these new modified trees are not resistant to the any changes in the nature, although thay may be better encountering with an especial virus or parasite. As she asserts the natural trees are more compatible to climate, water and environmental changes.

Secondly, the writer explain an economical justification to support the genetically modified trees. The article assume a large number of economic benefits for the farmer because of the growing acceleration in genetically modified trees. The lecturer however rebuts this by mentioning the point that the farmer have to pay every time for planting such trees and this not seem beneficial.

Finally, the passage suggusts such trees to prevent overexploitation of wil trees, because of vast of human demands to materials. In contrast, the lecturer's position is that the genetically modified trees will result in more damages to local areas and she anticipates that use of genetically modified trees eventually will crowd out the natural trees.
