The article states that improving trees by genetic modification are very effective and useful and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that there are serious problems with genetically modified trees and refutes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading claims that these trees are more resistant than natural trees. The professor refutes this point by saying that these trees are not resistant when they expose some situations like climate change and they will die. because they don’t design for this situation. But wild trees are naturally resistant to these situations and they get survived.
Second, the article posits that genetically modified trees are more economical than natural trees. Because they grow fast and yields a greater number of fruits. However, the professor says that genetic modification is costly. According to the professor, farmers need to expend a huge money for buy seeds these trees and after each season they need to cost again for buying these seeds because they are forbidden by law to collect seeds from available trees.
Third, the reading says that using modified trees will survive natural tree because they grow fast and satisfy the need for wood. The professor opposes this point by explaining that modified trees compete by natural trees for sunrise and nutrient in the soil. Because, their growth is faster and a number of them are more, they cause damage to natural trees.
