TPO-22 - Integrated Writing Task
The article states that ethanol is not a good replacement for gasoline and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that the ethanol is a good alternative and refutes each of the reading’s reasons.
First, the reading states that the increased use of ethanol fuel would not help to solve the environmental problems such as global warming.
The professor counters this point by stating ethanol fuel will not add global warming. Ethanol fuel made from plants such as corn. Every growing plant absorb carbon dioxide, so the process of growing plants will counteract the release of carbon dioxide.
Second, the article claims that the production of significant amounts of ethanol would dramatically reduce the amount of plants that used to feed farm animals. The professor contends this point by saying that we can produce ethanol by using the cell walls called cellulose that are not eaten by animals, so the amount of animals feed will not be reduced.
Third, the reading avers that ethanol fuel will never be able to compete with gasoline on price. The professor opposes this point by saying that the USA government support will not be needed because when people start buying ethanol fuel then, the production will increase which will leads to a drop in its price.
