The reading argues that Peary reached the North Pole and also listed three reasons to support this idea. However, the speaker finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute not solid evidence.

First, the author proposes that the National Geographic Society sent a committee to search for this fact and they proved the accuracy of this claim. In contrast, the speaker rejects this reason and assets that this organization provides financial aid for him and also, they were close friends. Hence, their results are not trustworthy.

Second, the reading passage indicates that because the British explorer reached in less 37 days and has similar dogsled like Peary this claim is true. On the other hand, the speaker casts doubt on this issue by standing that superficially it seems true, both have the same sled, but Avery did not transport food, the food was transported by airplane. As a result, they did not have the same speed. Besides, Peary faced unfavorable conditions.

Finally, the author points out that the photograph supports this reason by measuring the shadow in the photo to calculate the position of the sun. On the contrary, the speaker rebuts this idea and declares that the photos faded over time. Therefore, the shadow is blurred and faded and it could not support the acceptable measures to find the position of the sun.
