One of the threats to endangered sea turtle species is the use of nets by commercial shrimp-fishing boats. When turtles get accidentally caught in the nets, they cannot rise to the surface of the ocean to breathe, and they die. Some people suggest that this problem can be solved through an invention called a turtle excluder device (TED) that is incorporated into the nets. A TED provides a passage through which the turtles can escape. However, TEDs have been criticized for several reasons.

The passage talks about a device called ted that is used to save turtles that are trapped in nets. The writer explains three disadvantages of using teds. On the other hand, the lecture disproves the writer’s claims. The speaker reckons that teds are effective way of protecting turtles’ population and responds writer's points.

Firstly, in the passage the writer believes that the number of turtles that are get trapped are only rarely and thus using teds is not effective. On the contrary, the lecturer pointed out that there are thousands of shrimper in the sea if each shrimper caught one turtles each year, the result is thousands of turtles that are caught each year. Considering the small number of them because of the endangered population, this number will effects them greatly

Secondly, the writer proposes time limiting method for saving turtles. But, the writer rebuts this response. The writer believes that time limit is not a good idea. The government can’t">can’t handle it in a vast area and it is not controllable, therefore it can’t">can’t be enforced.

Finally, the writer reckons that teds are so small for some turtles. some large ones can not escape from the nets. The lecturer have a solution. She demonstrates that teds designs can be modified. it is possible for designers to provide large teds and thus no problem would be exist for some large turtles.
