In term of how we can prevent birds from striking to the glass of a building, the lecturer and the author contradict each other. The author in the article, suggest some solutions to prevent injuries to a bird, on the contrary, the professor in the lecture, refute each solution and states that these tips are not effective.
Firstly, The author claims that one solution is to use one-way glass which, is transparent in the only one direction, in contrast, the professor asserts that this action has some problems because one direction windows play the role as a mirror, therefore, birds cannot distinguish the mirror and they see the tree and other material in that window and fly throw of them. Thus this solution is not very good.
secondly, the reading states another way to make a safe window is using colorful and pattern designs. these patterns painted over the glass and let people still see them out but, help birds to avoid trying to fly and meet with the window. on the contrary, the lecturer cast doubt to this point and claims that pattern has some problems because from the birds perspective these patterns are like the hole. as a result, they probably fly into the hole. moreover, if we can use this solution the stript lines should be very small and narrow hence, inside the building be very dark and it is a negative point for architecture.
Finally, the article asserts that the third solution is to create an artificial magnetic field in the windows. Due to research birds have natural ability to sense the magnetic field, therefore, this way can prevent them from colliding with the windows. in contrast, the speaker in the lecture refuse this way and states that magnetic ability only works on birds for long distance travel for instance, when the bird wants to travel from cold place to warm place, so, in this situation, the magnetic field doesn't work and birds using their eye for short distance. Thus, this solution is not effective.
