The reading passage and the lecture are both about glass materials in modern architecture which is may dangerous for wild birds; because the wild birds cannot distinguish between glass and open air. The author of the reading brings three solutions to prevent this problem. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article by providing three decent reasons.

Firstly, the author believes that architectures can use one-way glass instead of two-way glass. It means that wild birds cannot see inside the building. Therefore, they do not try to fly through it. This point is challenged by the lecturer. The professor says that one-way glass represents as a mirror for wild birds and they do not understand what the mirror is. Therefore, they see the picture of trees and the sky on the window and try to fly through it. Hence, it would not be different from two-way windows.

Secondly, the author states that architectures can provide some colorful thin lines or design on the outer side of the window. Therefore, the wild birds do not fly through it and also people inside the building would see outside, normally. This point is refuted by the lecturer. He states that these thin lines can be represented as a hole for birds; then, they want to fly through it. This solution would be practical if the lines become extremely small, but the inside of the building becomes dark for people.

Finally, the reading passage states that installing magnetic fields on the window can guide away birds from it; because they have the ability to recognize Earth’s magnetic fields when they travel. This point is rejected by the lecturer. He argues that birds use this ability just when they want to travel long distances such as migration from one country to another. Also, they do not use this ability for short travel inside the town; they use light and their eyes for short distances. Hence, this solution would not be practical.
