In term of whether the European silver coin which found at a site in the state of Maine in the united states, brought by European explorer who named Norse, the author and, the lecturer contradict each other. The author in the article claims that some archaeologists believe that the coin is not a genuine piece of historical evidence and that is fake and states some reasons, on the other hand, the professor in the lecture asserts that some other archaeologists believe that this coin is precious evidence.
First the author claims that the location which the coin was discovered located very far from Norse settlement which is more than a thousand kilometers, in contrast, the lecturer refute this claims and states that this is not a great distance because many native American traveled this distance for other objects and come from far away for other things and back to their settlements, therefore, this location is not great distance.
secondly, the reading states that second problem is that no other coins have been found in this site and this evidence proves that the coin is fake. on the contrary, the professor contends that this settlement was temporary for Norse and he back to Europe frequently. Thus, he packed up everything and the coin consequently, he returned to Europe.
Finally, the article asserts that the silver coins were useless for native American because these coins had wide use in Europe at the time. the speaker refutes this claims and states that North American did not recognize the silver coins as money but, these coins were attractive and appealed people to gather these coins as jewelry hence, it could prove that as these coins were beauty the American people tended to gather these objects.
In the nutshell, according to the aforementioned reasons the professor in the lecture cast doubt about author claims.
