TPO-44

The reading states that a European silver coin was found in one of the United States cities, which was called Maine. The people believe that this coin was brought to the United States by Norse who traveled to the United States and had communication with Americans. The archaeologists believe that this coin was placed to this site to mislead people, and they provide three reasons for that. The professor explains that this coin was not fake and refutes each author's reasons.
First, the reading asserts that there was a long distance between the site of the coin and Norse's settlement. The professor contends this point by saying that the natives could travel far away distance and obtained other objects from a great distance, so they brought the coin with themselves to Maine. So it can be a reasonable explanation.
Second, the article avers that there were not any other coins which were inhabited by Norse. The professor contradicts this assertion by stating that Norse packed up all silvers, and when he returned to Europe, he took the coin back with himself.
Third, the reading claims that native North Americans did not recognize silver coins as money. However, the professor refutes this point by stating that American recognized these coins are appealing because of their beauty, so they used them as the necklace and the jewelry, and Norse could use the trade coin with American.
