The reading passage proposes that a coin that has been found in North America is a fake evidence. However, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on this hypothesis and does not validate its reasons. He brings up some pieces of evidence which contradict them.
First off, the passage states that the location of discovery is far from other sites that showing the presence of Norse. However, the professor says that this reason is highly questionable due to the fact that other materials which were used by the Norse have been found in various places. He brings up the fact that the Norse usually traveled a great distance and obtained the object from far back to their mainland. So, it is possible that their material can be found in many places.
Furthermore, the author asserts that no other coins have been found where the Norse inhabited. On the other hand, the lecturer shares the idea that this point is not to be taken seriously by underlining the fact that it is possible when the European came to Canda, the brought the coins in the packs and after a while when they wanted to return packed up the coins and came back to Europe.
Finally, The reading holds the view that the Norse understood that silver coins are useless for them in North America where they did not recognize it as money. Conversely, the professor refutes this idea because he believes that silver was very appealing form them and they used it for jewelry and they traded by it. So, they knew the worth of the silver clearly.
