The reading and the lecturer are both about migrating humpback whales with helping of navigating by the stars or not. The reading claims that some reasons about the lives of whals indcate that by using stars, they are able to imigrate to lang distances. The lecturer casts doubt on the clais mad ein the article by saying that navigating in whals is facinating, but the evidences in the reading were not convincing.
First, the author of the reading says that the brain of humpback whalsis so sophisticated and able them to navigate by their intelligence. The lecturer refutes this point by explaining that there is not any connection between the whals' intelligence and their ability to navigate. She says so many animals like birds are capble of imigrating with average intelligence. So whals born with high intelligence and it has not any effect on their capability of imigration.
Second, the author posits that animals are able to move in staright line for a long distance. Because whals are not able to use the coast feature to find their way, they use stars to navigate. However, the professor asserts that animals use earth magnatic field to navigate; there is a bio magnatic in their body that make them sensitive to earth magnatic field and help them to find the way. She mentions brains of whals contain some magnatic field and help them to navigate by earth magnetic even in night.
Third, the reading says that whals are doing and special activity that means spy-hoping. This act shows that they need to watch sky to navigate by stars. The professor rejects this by explaining that some animals like sharks do this act too but they do this behaviour when they want to haunt not beacause of watching stars. As a result, it is too rare that whals do this behaviour to watch stars to navigate.
