TPO 52- Asteroids are large space objects made of rock and ice. There are hundreds of thousands of asteroids in our solar system. Though we often hear ideas about establishing colonies of humans to live and work on our Moon or our neighboring planet, Mars

The reading and the lecture are both about colonization in asteroids. The author feels that this process would have several benefits. The lecturer challenges the claims made by the author. She is of the opinion that these ways are not practical and have some downsides.
To begin with, the author argues that because of low gravity it would be much easier while landing and taking off. The article mentions that spaceship would be able to carry more equipment and would use less fuel. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. She claims that low gravity may have some certain risks. Additionally, she says that low gravity may affect people on asteroids to lose muscle mass and bone density, and astronauts would suffer from some health risks.
Secondly, the writer suggests that asteroids are valuable mineral sources that are rare in Earth. In the article, it is said that because these are profitable, some businesses can sponsor these trips to gain more. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that great amount of materials can reduce the profits because prices would not be same. She elaborates on this by bringing up the point that great amount of rich minerals would increase supply, lowering market prices.
Finally, the author posits that asteroids are easy to reach. Moreover, it is stated in the article that they periodically come within close distance with Earth, closer than Moon. In contrast, the lecturer’s position is that returning to Earth may not be so easy as going to because asteroids sometimes can be far away as Mars. She notes that orbits of asteroids are not periodic, so asteroids can be closer to Earth and can move away from Earth in a same orbital period.
