The reading passage proposes some probable solutions for the problem of ever-increasing saltinity of a lake which is a considarable issue owing to be likely to result in a dead zone. The lecture, however, casts doubt on the proposed ideas and offers some counterclaims to refute them all. In addition, it is mentioned that despite being desirable, these methods are not practical and realistic.

First, the reading argues that the water can be pumped out and brought back to the lack after getting separate from its salt by a device. On the contrary, the lecturer is of the idea that this method is probable to cause serious problems. The waste salty material includes some toxic chemicals such as Selenium; therefore, if these harmful chemicals release into the air, people will be exposed to a lot of dangers and diseases by breathing them.

Next, the passage states that adding ocean water, which is far less salty, into the lack can decline the saltinity of the lake. In contrast, the profesor highlights the fact that the government may not be able to effort the expensive cost of the required infrastructure such as piped line or canals for long distances.

Finally, the reading brings up the solution of dividin the lake into several sections which in spite of having salty small sections, the main section maintains fresher by directing rivers into it. Conversely, the speaker dismisses the solution due to the fact that it is a short-lived solution. She also indicates that frequent occurences such as earthquick can easily break down the walls and mix up the sections together; consequently, by colapsing the partitions the main section will be fulled up with salty water of other parts again.
