tpo 60 Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific theories mentioned in the reading passage
Both the reading and the lecture are about the several ideas of helping rhinoceros from extinction. The reading passage states that there are some ideas that seem reasonable of protecting them from poaching. On the contrary, the lecturer refutes this suggestions by saying that those solutions are weak.
First of all, the writer mention that the wildlife experts called ''dehorn'' should try to remove rhinos horns without hunting them, but by using medical equipment and drugs. However, the professor cannot disagree more by reasoning that if experts remove rhino's horns they will reduce the chance of their survival. Rhinos use horns for different purposes such as find food, protect their territory. Therefore, rhinos will decrease in number anyway.
The second argument the author gives is that the education of customers about the medical properties of horn should be changed. People should learn that those benefits are not scientifically proved. Nevertheless, the lecturer claims that it is very hard to change peoples mind because the belief that horns have health benefits is an ancient belief. As a result of that, it is going to be very hard to educate people on this perspective.
Finally, on one hand, the reading points out that the government should legalize sales of rhinos horn. That will help the decline of eligible hunting. On the other hand, the lecturer declares that if the government takes action and legalize the sales of horns, then the demand may get increased and as a result the price would rise, too. Therefore, if the price is going up, people who hunt rhinos will tend to poach even more rhinos and not stop. Consequently, rhinos number will drastically decline.
In contrast, points made in the reading contrast point made by the speaker.
