The author and lecturer offer two opposing views on the side-effects of less literature reading trends among the today's public. While, the reading passages lists some factors as the negative effects of this incident, the professor counters these specific factors and presents some clues to call into question for the information in the text.

First of all, the professor refutes the fact of missing intellectual stimulation, which in the reading part is nominated as one of the drawbacks. Since nothing can provide that proliferated background as the literature does. The professor states that the literature is not the sole source of intellectual enhancement. The other types of books such as the history, science, and art literature offer that benefits too. Besides, there is no any evidence to suggest that the people do not take advantages of these kinds of books instead of the literature writing.

Next, the passage mentions to the low-level of cultural value which is caused by the trivial entertainment facilities. The lecturer doubts the truth of this claim. As she asserts, there other types of entertainments prepared based on the demand of modern lifestyle. This equipment such as a track of song or a scene of movie is effective as much as the literature. Even in some cases, their influences are sharper than the literature writing.

Finally, the professor argues that the decrement of literature reading will lead to the decline of literature writing. Meanwhile, in the reading part presumes that in this era with the less interest to the literature, the publishers will not invest the money in this field and the talented writers will lose their financial adherence. Based on the lecturer's belief, the lack of advocacy by the publisher does not relate to the decline of readers. However, nowadays the contents of books are so complicated and vague which do not appeal to the readers' desires. Consequently, the main reason for this situation is the writers, not the readers.

That is how the professor effectively challenges the claim made in the article.
