TPO33

the main topic of both the talk and the text is about carved stone balls and their plausible purposes and meanings. the passage states several theories about the purpose and meaning of the carved stone balls. on the other hand, the professor categorically refutes all the three theories mentioned in the passage, citing none of these theories are very convincing.
First, both the text and the speech discuss the idea of the hunting and fighting theory for the stone balls. the passage believes that because of the existence of the holes and grooves on the stone balls, they might have been used for hunting or fighting. Conversely, the lecture opposes this point by saying that common weapon in Neolithic era had some indications of wear but these stone balls don't have any sign of wear or damage on their body and are very well preserved.
Second, both the author and the speaker put forth the idea of a system of weights and measures. the passage demonstrates that because these stones are nearly in a similar size, therefore they utilized in the system of measuring. In contrast, the lecture refutes this point of view, saying because carved stone balls are made of different type of stone, therefore, they have different densities and as a consequence variant weights and there are not appropriate for measuring.
Third, both the passage and the reading consider the idea of the social purpose of these stone balls. the essay asserts that due to the elaborate patterns on these stones they were related to the social status of their owners. on the contrary, the lecture rejects this idea, saying
that some stones have the intricate pattern but the others have simple one.furthermore in the past when a high-rank social status person died he buried with his possessions but there are not any sign of these stones in the graves.
