Both author and lecturer offer two opposing views on the bee nests fossil. While the reading part lists some skeptics to doubt the validity of this resemblance, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into the question for the information in the reading passage.

First of all, the article posits that the lack of actual bees' fossils indicates that this fossil was not bee nest. However, the instructor casts doubt on the accuracy of this claim. As she states, although there are no fossils of actual bees, it does not mean there was any bee in the two million years ago. The bee can be properly fossilized in the resin, substance released by the tree. Maybe in that period there was no tree to provide that content; as a result, the bees did not be fossilized as expected.

Next, the text mentions to the mutual link among the flowering plants and bees, and the absence of flowering plants at that time as the evidence, which the bee could not be existed at that point too. On the other hand, the lecturer challenges this assumption. As she asserts, it is feasible that with the absence of the flowering plants, the bees depended on the other unflowering plants such as the fern and the pain tree, and by the appearance of the flowering plants the bees altered their diets and provided this mutual relationship.

Finally, meanwhile, the passage assumes that the variations in some details of nest structure are a clue that the nest did not belong to the bees; the professor refutes this surmise too. Based on her assertion, even though there are some differences among the modern bees' nest structure and this nest's pattern, the chemical analysis demonstrates both of them possess the same chemical. Both of the fossilized nest and modern nest shaped with a waterproof material which is identical; thus, both of them are constructed by the bee.
