TPO49 Integrated Writing
Both reading passage and the lecture arguess the pssibility of using navigating by the skys by humpback whales. With this in mind, the reading states that there are some reasons to confirm that humpback whales use skys and stars to navigate. The author, on the other hand, refutes all three episodes of arguments mentioned in the passage, believing tha none of those evidences are convincing.
First, ther wither points out that humpback whales are so intelligent and have compelex brain structure so, they well-developed cognitive ability could help them to find their destination by night sky observation. Conversely, the professor makes it clear that there is not any direct conection between intelligence and using sky navigation. Put it in other words, he says that there are some other clever animals which don't use stars for orientation moreover, there is some animals using stars for navigation but they are not intelligent enough. Thus, navigating by stars in not the sign of intelligence.
Second, the author holds the view that humpback whales move in a straight directions for long distances and it is possible if they orient themselves by some external assistances, like some birds. there for the stars at night can provide them a sign for find their way. However, the lecture contradicts this idea and mentions that it is possible to use magnetic field for migration in straght lines as some other animals.
Finally, the reading selection illustrates that humpback whales, sometines, floating straight up fo some minutes while kepe their heads above. Therefore, it is plausible that these animals have this rare behavior in order to observe sky and stars to find their ways.
