The reading and the lecture are both about motivation. There are two ways that a human is motivated. One is with external rewards, such as money, approval or attention, this one is called "extrinsic" motivation. But there is another kind of motivation wich is the intrinsic motivation. The last one, occurs when a person is satisfied with what he or she does.
The lecture gives an example of a girl named Marie, that was really good at singing. She enjoyed and loved to sing everywhere she had the opportunity. The professor point out that her family and her friends put a lot of pression on her, they allways wanted to hear her sing. That is why, Marie did not enjoy singing anymore, because she had to do it even if she was not in the mood. And as is mention in the reading, this kind of reaction to public rewards it is called overjustification.
According to the reading, when a person has too much extrinsic rewards, he or she would diminish the intrinsic motivation, just like it happened to Marnie. The professor explained that when she bacame an adult, an important company ofered her a contract to sing professionaly. Marnie agreed with this, not because she enjoyed singing, but because she was thinking now in the reward.
In conclusion,both, the passage and the lecture conveys the idea that intrinsic motivation can change with the augment of external rewards.
