Essay topics:

We have heard many people talking in recent times about the potential for exploiting the ocean floor for resources, and the future of aquamarine agriculture. and write y This just demonstrates that after we have finished with the destruction on land, we will transfer all our unsustainable practices onto the oceans.

First, the only way to get to the minerals that are at the bottom of the seas, we have to devastate the ecosystems that are found there. We don't know exactly where the resources are so we would have to tear apart a lot territory that's under the water. This would profoundly impact the sea life that is tied to the ocean floor.

Moreover, this will raise a lot of sand and dust from the bottom that will pollute the water, let's not even talk about the poisonous waste products that will get into the sea currents which might circulate all over the globe. This would affect the animals that are inhabiting the water all the way up to 1000 meters of depth. This accounts for more than 90 percent of ocean dwellers.

Finally, the same destruction will happen with the aquamarine agriculture. A lot of fish, like salmon and tuna, will be restricted to a small space so they could be properly fed, grown and then harvested. They would be in a pen, but for fish. This would concentrate their bodily waste in a small area. A negative, and significant, impact would be done to the surrounding ecosystems and it would have a negative effect on the quality of the fish that is being farmed.

The reading and lecture are both about the potential for exploiting the ocean floor for resources and aquamarine agriculture's future. The author of the reading feels that we will damage the ocean beds once we are done with exploiting the land for our needs. The lecturer challenges the claims by the author. She is of the opinion that through ocean farming there won't be such detrimental effect to the ocean or the lives of the animals habiting in it.
To begin with, the author argues that way to get these resources will only lead to disturbing the ocean environment. The article metions that, since we dont't know the exact location of these resoruces, our techniques will only scrape out the whole floors beneath the water. The specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that with current techniques no wide area is required to pin point the location, only small holes will be drilled to test for the site selection. Additionally, he says through this method only small portion of the sea life might get actually affected.
Secondly, the writer suggets because of these mining lots of sand and dust particles will cause pollution of the water. In the article, it said that chances are that poisonous waste is also released into the sea, which might penetrate thousands of meters into the waters affecting the marine life. The lecturer, however rebuts, this by mentioning that there will be minimal to no circulation of the particles in the water. Also it will be made sure that the place where technique is used is cleared from any marine life it by 500 miles in radius.
Finally, the author posits that marine agriculture will be destroyed by restricting lots of fishes in a small zone. Moreover, in the article it is stated that such situation may lead to concentration of the waste from these fishes in that particular zone producing a negative effect to the whole ecosystem. In contrast, the lecturer's postion is that, since there is population of 5 billion people on the planet the deamd for food is eventually going to outpace supply. So it will be better to not only depend on the land meat but also be dependent on the meat from the sea. The farming methods used to harvest these fishes will be located in a deserted region of the sea which will have no particular impact on to the ecosystem of the ocean. Hence, there will be plenty of space for the fishes to live.
