Yellow cedar in northwestern North America

Essay topics:

Yellow cedar in northwestern North America

The reading and the lecture both discuss the theories about decreasing the population of the yellow cedar, a type of tree existence in America. By presenting three theories, the reading passage explains this reduction of yellow cedar population. However, the lecture rejects all of them, saying that these reasons are not enough to being aware of this declination.

First, the article asserts that cedar bark beetle is a suitable candidate for declining of the cedar tree. According to the author some document is available about this kind of insect strange atacking to the yellow cedar tree. Nevertheless, the professor finds this hypotheses questionable, by bringing up the fact that the healthy cedar trees are much more durable than other trees to this insect. Furthermore, he alleges that almost always these insects atack to the sick trees, which they will die with the attack or not incrusian of them.

In addition, the reading states that the other reason for yellow cedar population reduction would be the brown beers, and that is because they claw these trees to use their high sugar available in tree bark. On the contrary, the lecture contends that beers cannot be the acceptable reason for this subject. He states that the brown beers are distributed all over that area including main land and island. According to the professor there are no beers in the island zone whereas, the population of the cedars are reducing there too. All in all, the cedar tree will be decreased with or without beers.

Finally, the writer asserts that the sever change in climate can be the other reason for this event. He implies that climate changes have affected the root systems of this species of tree and can have significant results. In contrast, the lecture refutes this allege, saying that the yellow cedars are much more dying in low elevations that are warmer that high elevation. While according to the reading's theory the reduction process should be faster in high elevation, but in fact the declining occurrence is more common in warmer area.
