TPO-31 - Integrated Writing Task A fossil skeleton of a dinosaur called Sinosauropteryx, preserved in volcanic ash, was discovered in Liaoning, China, in 1996. Interestingly, the fossil included a pattern of fine lines surrounding the skeletal bones. Some

The reading and the speaker discuss Sinosauroteryx, which found in China in 1996 from different perspectives. The author of the reading believes that the fossil comprised the fine lines around the skeletal bones are not feathers. However, the speaker casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He says none of those ideas that the article has declared are convincing.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that the fine lines were formed after the death of the animals. This point is challenged by the speaker. He restates the fact that scientists found the fossils of other animals and they are preserved very well. Therefore, the fine line of dinosaur is truly the feather. It is not the fibers as the article has mentioned.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that the fine lines could be the frills. The speaker rebuts this argument by saying that frills are different from feathers. The feathers contain Beta-carotene. In fact, scientists also found the Beta-carotene in the fine lines of the fossils of Sinosauroteryx. That means it probably the feathers of the dinosaur.
Finally, the author of the reading states that feathers help animal to fly or control internal temperature. But, the lines of the Sinosauroteryx located in the tail and backbone of the animal. The speaker, on the other hand, opposes this point by saying that the feathers play many different roles. The animals can use their feathers to attract the male as the birds do. Moreover, the speaker puts forth the idea that scientists analyzed the fossils and concluded that the feathers contain in the fossils of Sinosauroteryx are colorful with orange and light. This point supports that the dinosaurs used the feathers to display.
