Claim Group assignments that students must work together to complete should replace asubstantial amount of traditional lecture based instruction in college and universitycourses Reason It is vital for students to gain experience collaborating with peers

'United we stand, divided we fall' - indeed is true in the case where groupism is required to understand the underlying principles of a particular topic. The claim states that students must work together to complete assignments and is essential in a way to replace the traditional lecture based approach as well for the reason that it is vital for the students to gather experience through collaborative team work. In my opinion, I agree with the claim and the reason stated, as it is in a way viable for a conducive future of the students for three main ideas.
In a traditional didactic approach, where the lecture is quite boring without any interactions can lead to development of apathy over the subject. In fact, sharing the knowledge with each other is a way more interesting than a banal way to lecture the class. Students learn to develop ideas on their own if the assignments are left at their discretion rather than instructing each and every topic they are supposed to learn. For example, an assignment about aquatic creatures need a more pragmatic approach to analyze it's habitat and ecosystem. Instead of pointing out the features in class, a practical way of visiting the aquarium as a group will surely tend to develop interest among the students.
Forming a team and working on an assignment together can be analogous to the future professional environment the students are putative to face after graduation. Group discussion and ethics at workplace, which forms the predominant mundane role as a team player is a requirement for the efficient workplace etiquette. For instance, the software industry encompasses various portfolios, where the developer develops codes and the tester tests them. Proper communication and timely reporting among various teams is necessary for a software professional to meet their deadlines. Therefore, a group assignment at a college level can enhance the students to develop a strong communication with one another and elaborating each person's ideas for the successful implementation of the assignment. In fact, such activities can be a trial for the student's future as a professional.
Teamwork can in fact develop a leadership quality in students. Though there are more advantages on being a part of the team, there is an ambiguity on whether a full participation among the students is possible. This prevailing ambivalence is tackled by assigning a team leader and varying the role for the next assignments. Therefore, a leader can invigilate the progress of the assignments and keep a watch on the students who are least participated. Also the least participating student finds a role as a leader in the forthcoming assignments which enhances his or her role to monitor others and realize the importance of participation. For example, if a least scorer or a diffident student is given an opportunity to lead the group for completing the assignment, he can improve on his personality. Consequently, he can drive a more complex project for a corporate in the future with arrant confidence.
Of course, few people argue that the traditional way builds a more teacher and student interactive session that is required very much for the institution. However, a group interactive attitude is overweighed when the scenario changes to a professional environment. A good establishment of a teamwork is much necessary than a lecturer- student when a student graduates out of the college and face the reality of circumstances from a perspective that deals with job. Thus, the idea behind segregating the students as a team for assignments must be successful for achieving a common goal.
