The chart below shows the changes that took place in three different areas of crime in New Port city center from 2003-2012.

Given is a line graph providing data on the alternations of crime rates in three different areas, namely, burglary, car theft, and robbery in the city center of Newport over nine years.

A brief analysis of the graph reveals that while burglary rates saw a considerable reduction, the changes in robbery was relatively stable.

Increasing moderately from just under 3500 incidents in 2003 to approximately 3700 in 2004, burglary rates then exponentially plunged to almost 1100 reports in 2008. Another gradual growth followed this to slightly less than 1500 in 2009 and nearly leveled out in that number until 2012.

The patterns for car theft and robbery were completely different. The former witnessed an almost consistent trend between 2003 to 2005 (at 2800) where there was a minimal increase from around 600 to 900 for the latter in that period. However, a significant drop went on both of them, falling to 2100 and 500 events in 2008, respectively. Although the number of thefts fluctuated between 500 and 600 from 2008 to 2012, car theft rose to about 2600 reports by 2010 before reaching the same amount of 2003 in the final year.
