The first chart below shows the results of a survey which sampled a cross-section of 100,000 people asking if they traveled abroad and why they traveled for the period 1994-98. There are two charts which surveyed by 100,000 of UK residents in 1994-98. The first chart shows the number of people who traveled abroad for the period and the reason why they traveled. The second chart indicates their destinations among western Europe, North America, and other areas. For 4 years, on average 25,000 people traveled abroad.

The largest number of people visited abroad with the aim of the holiday. This figure increased steadily from 1995 to 1998 and it just exceeded 20,500 in 1998. Other big reasons for travel are business and visits of friends and relatives. Less than 4,000 people go abroad for these reasons.

The most salient feature from the second chart is the figure of who traveled to western Europe. Nearly 25,000 people went there in 1998. Compared to this fact, not so many people traveled to North America and other areas.

Overall, these graphs display most of UK residents traveled to western Europe in order to enjoy the holiday from 1994 to 1998.
