The following bar chart shows the different modes of transport used to travel to and from work in one European city in 1960, 1980 and 2000.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparison where relevant.

The bar chart illustrates the four different means of transportation by which people of one European city traveled to and from their workplace in the year 1960, 1980 and 2000.

Overall, while more and more people chose a car as their main conveyance, the percentage of travelers who used bus, bike and foot was decreased correspondingly by the end of the period.

Looking at the details, in 1960, the lowest proportion of only 5% of the total travelers commuted to their destination by car. This figure then increased dramatically over the next 40 years and stood at around 35 % of total commuters by 2000. Although a similar pattern can be observed in case of travelling by bus, particularly from 1960 to 1980, when around 7 % more people traveled by this means ( from 18% to 25% ), by the year 2000, this figure dropped to around 16%.

As we can see further, though foot and bike were the most popular means of transportation in the start of the period, with approximately 34% and 25% of total travelers respectively, the proportion of passengers fell significantly in the final year and reached at around 9% and 6% respectively.
