The tables below give information about sales of Fair-trade-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.
The tables illustrate how fairtrade coffee and bananas were sold in five European countries in 1999 and 2004. Overall, it is clear that sales of coffee in all the sampled places experienced an increase during the five years; also a rise could be seen in those of bananas in the majority of countries except Sweden and Denmark.
Starting with the coffee sales, there was an obvious growth in the UK, from 1.5 million euros in 1999 to 20 million euros in 2004. Meanwhile, the data in Switzerland was doubled from 3 million euros to 6 million euros, and the figures for both Denmark and Sweden increased by the same million euros(0.2), from 1.8 to 2 and from 0.8 to 1 respectively.
Turning now to banana sales, Switzerland, at 15 million euros, sold the largest number among the five in 1999 and then its figure rose to 47 million euros in 2004, which still remain the biggest number. The five years also witnessed a moderate rise in the UK (from 1 to 5.5 million euros) and Belgium (from 0.6 to 4 million euros). However, the sales of bananas experienced a decrease in Sweden (1.8—1 million euros) and Denmark (2—0.9 million euros.)
