Your local council is considering closing a sports & leisure centre that it runs, in order to save money.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
• Give details of how you and your friends or family use the centre
• Explain why the sports and leisure centre is important for the local community
• Describe the possible effects on local people if the centre is closes

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in regards to the decision of town council for closing sports and leisure club. I understand that the council has decided this step to cut the costs of running the centre but there are many social aspects attached to this decision.

I will narrate how myself and my age-fellows are benefitting from the club. Every evening, we are playing basketball in the designated area which keeps us refresh after the hectic routine. We also organize matches over the weekend to keep us fit. This weekly competition is quite popular and as a result, our family members also come to witness the competition.

This centre serves as a social gathering place for elders, who not only watch different competitions but also take part in the routine walk, swimming and do gym. I believe because this centre, the social bond of the town dwellers is strengthened and most importantly, everybody is actively involved in some activity.

I’m afraid that if the centre is discontinued, many young and older people will lose an opportunity of free sports facilities. The youth might indulge in unhealthy practices and families would left socially isolated.

Thanking you for your kind consideration

Yours faithfully,
