In this day and age, with the development of social-networking sites including twitter, instagram and Wechat, an increasing number of people have gone into the habit of uploading their pictures and other information to such sites. Therefore, there comes a contention on whether it is meaningful to create such records. Some people believe that it is simply a waste of time to create such records through the Internet. At first glimpse, this idea holds water to some extent. Nevertheless, I would argue that I prefer to record my experiences by uploading pictures and other information to social-networking sites and my reasons are boiled down as follows.
First and foremost, posting pictures to social media surely enables me to memorize those experiences better. With the help of science and technology, it is becoming more and more convenient to use the social-networking sites. For example, when using Instagram, we can easily update our photographs or videos and add a location mark to the post. Therefore, with the help of such social media, we can not only recall accurately about our special experiences through the picture, but can also remember exactly when and where have we created such beautiful memories. Compared with social media however, if people simply try to memorize all of those moments in brain, not to mention the possibility considering the vast information we have to memorize nowadays, the reliability and accuracy of the information memorized by a human brain is surely worse than that saved through the social media. Therefore, in order to keep a more accurate and reliable record, I will prefer to use social media instead.
Moreover, social media helps us keep in touch with our friends and family members. From my perspective, it is not only what we have done that is to be remembered, but also who we have spent together should be cherished in mind. In this way, the social-networking sites provide us with a convenient platform to comment to each other, thus helping us remember who share such beautiful records with us during this experience. Additionally, for others, the social media is also an opportunity for people we haven't met for a long time to rebuild connection since we can easily send our wishes and likes to others' posts. I have to admit that my perspective is profoundly influenced by my personal experience. I remember that I paid a visit to London with some of my friends during a summer vacation and we had a good time there. According to the photos I saved in my phone, I knew exactly the scenic spots I visited, but I forgot about some of the friends that accompanied me in this journey. To find out the truth, I simply opened the social-networking site that I knew I would have uploaded those pictures and I successfully found some of the comments below such as, "Let's revisit London after graduation!" from several friends. Therefore, it helps me recall accurately who share those memories with me and we can always keep in touch with each other with the help of such social-networking sites.
Last but not least, besides keeping record of my own personal experiences, social-networking sites also enables me to view others' posts. For example, since I graduated from elementary school several years ago, it is nearly impossible for me to stay in contact with them through letters and telephones. However, with the help of social-networking sites, I am able to know where they are currently living and what they are doing at present. In this way, if I find trouble next time with the topic I believe they are familiar with, judging from their posts, such as visiting a city they are currently living in, I can ask them for help instead of gaining information through the Internet. At the same time, I'm also willing to help those in need of help if they come across a topic I am rather familiar with.
In light of the reasons and examples listed above, I strongly prefer to keep a record of my own experiences by uploading pictures and other information to social-networking sites since it helps me cherish those precious memories more accurately, strengthen the friendship between me and my friends, and enables me to view others' posts at the same time.
