Some students prefer classes with open discussions between the professor and students and almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with lectures and almost no discussions. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Nowadays, learning styles are various, and it is critically important that we look for a setting that matches our academic preference. Whereas some people incline to a discussion-based class, others disagree. In my opinion, I undoubtedly reckon that a lecture-based approach is more beneficial. I feel that way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.
First, the lecture guarantees that students acquire all knowledge that they are supposed to have. To illustrate, when I was a freshman, I got enrolled in a discussion class in history, which was about the ancient Egyptian civilization. The style was 100% discussion, but what happened that only a few students directed the whole class according to their questions. The instructor was never able to cover the syllabus categories because almost every time, only two students got engaged with the professor in a perpetual argument. Frankly, I did not get even the bare minimum information out of that topic, which made me fail the course. After I had taken the same material in my sophomore in the lecture style, I achieved plenty of essential points, and I got a high score as well. As you can see, a lecture-learning does benefit students a lot more than a discussion class.
Secondly, students can still raise their hands and ask questions in lecture-style, in particular, shy ones, without disruption for others. For example, a few years ago, in university, I took an introductory course in chemistry in the lecture-style. Although I was reluctant to raise my hands during the lecture and ask questions because of my shyness back then, however, since it was a lecture learning, the professor asked students to ask whatever they wanted at the end of the lecture. That way gave me a golden opportunity not to feel self-conscious because, after all, everybody was asking, and I could blend in the crowd. Furthermore, that way saved time for students who understood the entire lecture, and they can gather their belongings and quietly leave. The professor gave the option for students who misunderstood to stay and ask or comment on the topic. So, students who understood would save time by not getting distracted during the lecture. This experience taught me that a lecture-based setting is advantageous for shy students and does save time for other students.
In a nutshell, it is more appropriate for students to attend lectures than discussion setting classes. Not only because students get more knowledgeable, but also it gives a chance to the participation of shy students to ask without distraction for other students.

Better to have 5 paragraphs with 3 arguments. And try always support/against one side but compare two sides, like this:
para 1: introduction
para 2: reason 1. address both of the views presented for reason 1
para 3: reason 2. address both of the views presented for reason 2
para 4: reason 3. address both of the views presented for reason 3
para 5: conclusion.
So how to find out those reasons. There is a formula:
reasons == advantages or
reasons == disadvantages
for example, we can always apply 'save time', 'save/make money', 'find a job', 'make friends', 'get more information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
or we can apply 'waste time', 'waste money', 'no job', 'make bad friends', 'get bad information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
