The alternative source of energy for cars is the hydrogen based fuel cell engine

Essay topics:

The alternative source of energy for cars is the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine

The reading and the lecturer both are about the replacement of the automobile’s main source of power. While the author of the article argues that the alternative source of energy for cars is the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine. The lecturer disputes the claims mentioned by the author. His position is that hydrogen-based fuel-cell engines cannot be an alternative source of energy.
According to the passage the author mentions that hydrogen-based fuel cells have several advantages over internal combustion engines. The IC engine relies on petroleum, either in the form of gasoline or diesel fuel. Petroleum is a finite resource and these resources are ephemeral. This particular argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that hydrogen is not so easily available. Hydrogen is available in the gas form, to use it as a fuel, it needs to convert to the pure liquid state which is practically difficult to produce.
Secondly, the author suggests that hydrogen fuel cells solve many of the world's pollution problems. He goes on to say that hydrogen fuel-cells byproduct is water whereas oil byproduct is carbon dioxide which is very harmful to the environment. The lecturer, however, asserts that hydrogen fuel cell is not solving any pollution problems because the process of conversion of hydrogen to a liquid state consists of burning coal and oil which creates lots of pollution.
Finally, the author puts forth the idea that hydrogen-based fuel cells will soon be competitive because they are less expensive. In contrast, the lecture’s stance is that hydrogen-based fuel cells are more expensive because they require Platinium to undergo a chemical reaction to produce energy.
