causes of sea otter population decline

Essay topics:

causes of sea otter population decline.

The article is about the sea otter decline population, as the decline rate increased the scientist investigate and conclude that pollution and predators are the two causes of decline. However, the author states that pollution is the main reason but the professor presented a few concepts which describe that predators are the main reason.

To begin with, the author states that as there are industries nearby Alaska cost and it leads to chemical damping in it, and as otters get exposed by that chemical frequently they get infected and causes death. However, the professor disagree with this and explained that if pollution would have been the reason for otter decline, there will be the presence of dead otters on the coast as they were not present. It indicates that predators hunt otters and ate them this left no otters at the shore and so the decline is due to predators.

To carry on the next point, the author explained that there was an overall decline in sea population and all ecosystems get affected and concluded that whatever leads death of otters same is affecting other sea animals and that is pollution. The professor sees flaws in the point and stated that as orcas are the big predator in cost and it largely preys on whale but as the whale disappears, orcas changes their diet, Orcas start hunting small animals and that lead to sea otter hunt and that to a decline in sea otter population.

To move on next point the author states that an uneven pattern of population decline justified that reason is pollution and illustrated that at some locations it was stable where pollution is less whereas at some locations it declined where pollution is more. The professor again feel it is incorrectly said and the explained that location where sea otters live are accessible to orcas and some are not, the accessible areas experience decline, while the populations in the inaccessible areas remain steady.
