Life today is easier and more comfortable than it was when your grandparents were children
Today’s modern life brings so many advances in technology that it is difficult for our lives to that of our grandparents. But in general, I do believe that our lives nowadays are easier and more and more comfortable than those of our grandparents. I will explain in the following essay.
First, communication was very difficult and people had to go to great lengths to established decent means of communicating to loved ones. The telephone was at its infancy stages and not everybody had a telephone line in their houses. I still remember, when I was nine or ten, some of our neighbors coming to our house to use our landline because the telephone company did not have enough lines to put in every house. furthermore, I remember, when I was living in London, at the beginning of the 1980s, I had to travel all the way to Picadilly Circus, to the main office of Telecom, so I could place a phone call to my mom in colombia. Instead, nowadays, the only thing I have to do to call abroad is to use a smartphone and I can call my mom in colombia while driving my car in the highways of Greensboro.
Second, traveling was expensive and uncomfortable, take for example airplane traveling. The cost of airplane tickets was so expensive only a few people could afford them. For example, my uncle when he traveled to Chicago in the 1970s, he had to buy his ticket using a large loan that he took from the local bank. it took him about two years to pay his loan. airline tickets have gotten so cheap, you can fly from Miami to colombia for less than 400 USD, this is cheaper than a visit to the dentist. furthermore, airplanes are more technological advancements, the level of comfort is a lot better than it used to be before airlines became so popular and affordable. They shake less, landing and take-off are smoother. All this thanks to the many sensors pilots are able to use during these procedures.
All in all, I am strongly believe that new advances in technology have improved our quality of life, making them more comfortable and easy
