Ethanol fuel as a replacement for gasoline and its consequences

Essay topics:

Ethanol fuel as a replacement for gasoline and its consequences

The passage is about the use of ethanol fuel as a replacement for gasoline and its consequences. It states that this increasing use will lead to major problems and has lots of disadvantages. However, the professor do not agree with this statement and any of the author's reasons.

First, the article claims that since burning of ethanol also releases carbon dioxide into the air, it will offer no benefits for global warming at all. The lecturer disagrees with this idea. He believes that due to the source of ethanol fuel production which are plants, they will not be harm full for global warming. These plants such as corn needs carbon dioxide for their growth and this will compensate the amount released when being burnt.

Second, the author point to the reduction of the plants which are currently being used to feed farm animals as a disadvantage of using ethanol fuel. However, The professor contradicts this statement by explaining the it's production process. He claims that this fuel has not to be produced by crops such as corn itself and companies can use selulose which can be found in the parts of plants that are not being used as food.

Furthermore, it is stated in the article that the cost of these fuel is much higher than gasoline despite of it's current same price due to governmental tax subsidies. Nevertheless, the lecturer claims that if the use of this fuel increase the cost will be reduced due to mass production methods and point out that if the use of it increase 3 times as it is now, the price would be reduced be 40 percent.
