formation of Carolina Bay whether it is caused by a meteorite impact
The listening lecture totally opposes to the reading passage in the formation of Carolina Bay whether it is cause by a meteorite impact. First of all, the reading says that the depressions are asymmetrical and meteorite craters are observed to have this phenomenon. However, the listening argues that water flow is also a cause of the Carolina Bay when water travel over to places in a ling period of time. besides, evidences had found that the absence of groundwater in this region. As a result, the Carolina Bay might be other causes instead of meteorite impacts.
Secondly, the reading implies that researchers have found that most sand is thinly coat with iron, but the surrounding sand does not contain any iron. Only meteorite impacts burn and melt the iron out of the sand. On the other hand, the listening suggests that it is true that some part of the sand does not contain any iron. However, when the high heat melt the iron, glass will be formed, but sand does not contain any glass. Moreover, many other chemical reaction can also take the iron away from the sand. In other words, the formation of Carolina Bay is more likely to cause by other chemical reactions instead of meteorite impacts.
Last but not least, the reading asserts that buckyballs had been found at Carolina Bay and buckyballs are made by meteorite explosion. However, the listening indicates that this hypothesis is incorrect. Buckyballs are only found in some specific parts of the Carolina Bay. If it is cause by meteorites impacts, buckyballs will be located spread among the Carolina Bay. Besides, there are other force that cause these buckyballs, such as lighting.
