Integrated Task : Dowsing

The passage discusses about the dowsing practice of finding hidden things using which dowsers are able to locate underground water. However, in the lecture, the Professor casts doubts on these claims by discussing findings of certain experiments.
The reading claims that underground water is detected when the dowser is able to feel the energy of the flowing underground streams vibrating through their device at certain frequencies. However, the Professor refutes this claim by saying that this is an unusual claim which is against the physics law. She explains that even the most sensitive instrument are unable to detect the forces which may be given off by various objects easily.
She,further, provides example of an experiment in which dowsing was conducted in restricted scientific conditions. It was found that dowsing could not work under those conditions. However, when dowsing was conducted in unrestricted conditions it was successful. Hence, she believes that it's completely based on luck and the probability of a dowser locating underground water or a normal person is same.
Thus, in the light of absence of any substantial evidence regarding how dowsing can be used to locate underground water, the claim remains questioanable and fallacious for her.
