purpose of the cave paintings of Lascaux

Essay topics:

purpose of the cave paintings of Lascaux

Both the passage and the lecture are about the possible purpose of the cave paintings of Lascaux. The author suggests three considerations to support the claim that these paintings are made to guarantee the prosperity of hunting actions. On the other hand, the professor is not convinced of this and casts doubt on each of these theories presented in the passage. Having categorically rejected the theories, he is of the opinion that there is little support for each of these theories.
To begin with, the author averts that since the animals which were mainly hunted by the painters are the principal subject of the painting, therefore, they serve to be the aim of painting. To prove his notion, the author alludes to the fact that most of the animals are hurt by arrows and depictions mostly refer to seasonal migration of the animal which was very important to the hunters. This specific argument is challenged by the speaker. The professor is of the opinion that some fundamental animals which were hunt normally by that people are not depicted whereas animals that were not hunt by them are pictured which put forth to the idea that hunting is not the subject of paintings. Also, the lecturer averts that the wounded animals cannot prove the mentioned argument.
Secondly, the writer suggests that drawings of human are mostly with the head of animals. The prehistorians used to hide themselves from animals with the head of the hunts. In contrast, the professor opposes this notion by mentioning that the humans in the drawings are horizontal, seems to have slept which repudiates the claim that they are in the trenches of hunting. Moreover, The lecturer mention that since there is no more evidence besides the human picture, scholars cannot accurately interpret the drawings.
Finally, The writer refers to the commonly belief that depictions are associated to the ritual ceremonies to help the hunters win the hunting by their magical power. The professor, contarstly, is of the opinion that the drawings may have the other magical power. He states that since the prehistorians used to believe that the spirit of the gone people live in the animals body, they produce these paintings as a gateway to communicate with the gone ancestors through ceremonies.
