The reading and the lecture both about salinity in lake. Which is level of salt in lake's water .The author of reading believes that if salt will more increase in lake then it will be unable to support fish and bird population. So, there are several ways to reverse the trend. The lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article. Lecturer thinks that these methods are not appropriate.

First of all ,the author mentions about desalinization facilities. Water from lake would be pumped into the facilities and heated. This will help to water to evaporate in steam and salt and other material left behind .The steam water will cooled down and returned into the lake. This point is oppose by lecturer. She says that ,this method is useful for reduce the salinity but rather than salt other ingredients are toxic . If they spread in environment and come into human breathing then they would be harmful for them.

Secondly, the author states that bring water from ocean in to lake and dilute the water can reduce the salinity. Furthermore passage states that ocean water can be delivered through pipelines or canals. The lecturer rebuts this system. The lecturer says that lakes are far away from the ocean water .She elaborates on this by mentioning that construction of pipeline is expensive in this much distance because the government cannot afford this much expense.

Finally, the author mentions that construct the walls to divide the lake into several section can decrease the salinity. He says that in smaller section salinity will less as compared to main and larger section .The lecturer , on the other hand states that walls in lakes are not permanent solution they maybe disrupt due to earthquakes or any other activities. The lecturer puts the forth that because of this high salinity water can be mixed with low salinity water.

In conclusion, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all of the way presented in the reading for reduce the salinity.
