Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading passage.

The article states that rare and important fossils are now being sold to private ownership for millions of dollars and believed to have unfortunate development to both scientists and general public, and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor disagrees by saying that the selling of the fossils to private individuals have more advantages than disadvantages, she also states that the opinion of the author is greatly exaggerated, and refutes each of the author’s reasons.

First, the article claims that public suffers because fossils that should be donated to museums where everyone can see them are sold to private collectors who don’t allow public access. The professor disagrees by saying that public will have more exposure, because of the commercialization, public will get access thus they can buy fossils and be displayed in public.

Second, the article states that scientists are likely to lose access to some of the mot important fossils and they’ll miss out on potentially crucial discoveries about extinct life forms. The professor opposes by saying that the author’s reason is not realistic because before the fossil are ready to be sold it has to be scientifically identified and the person who does this are scientist, and she also states that there is no way that scientists will miss out important information since they are the ones who’ll perform the examination and tests the fossils before it’s available to the market.

Third, the article posits that commercial fossil collectors often destroy valuable scientific evidence associated with the fossils they unearth. However the professor refutes by saying that damage to fossils is minimal and that there are only small number of organizations that locates fossils. She also states that because of the private buyers more fossils are being discovered and that is the most important thing compared to just stopping the access of private buyers to fossils thus there will be less fossil discoveries.
